The Loft Fixtures

Overview

Without the loft fixtures, all I really have is a shed.  I've been told by experienced fanciers that I will spend much more time working on the inside of the loft that I have spent on the outside.

Picture 1

This partition wall is 4 feet wide and about 6.5 feet high.  It is covered with hafl-inch welded wire hardware cloth and attached to the 2x2 frame with quarter-inch staples.  It is screwed to a wall stud and to the floor.

Picture 2

The sliding part of the partition is about 31 inches wide.  It is on a closet door "pass through" style of track.

This is a shelf section of my nestbox.   I cut four of these from some 3/4 inch and 1/2 inch plywood that I had around.

This is a utility shelf frame I bought from a hardware store for about $5.  It is constructed of 2x2's.  I bought three of these.  With my custom cut shelfs attached, I will have six nestboxes (16h x 24w x 15d) in this unit.

Here I've screwed in the shelves, added a back and sides, and installed a partition between each pair of nest boxes on each row.

My trap door open.  This door is for me, and not for the birds.  It's so I can access the skylight for cleaning and darkening.  I will also be able to access my high windows and eave vents using this door.

Here's the trap door shut.
