TWO WAY PIGEONS (Page 2/3)
Training this kind of selected team of birds must never cease. You must keep training them every single day, weather permitting. Instead of training them once a day, you can also train them morning and afternoon. Once you have accomplished having your birds returning from loft #1 to loft #2 and back to loft #1, then it does not make any difference regarding weather conditions. The birds must do this every day of the week.
One thing must always be remembered. When the birds are at loft #1, they see no feed at any time or free loft. The same goes for loft #2 where they never see any water, but only feed. When they are released from loft #2 (which is an avairy about five feet square, 2 1/2 ft. high, with a release door on the side and a trap door on the top center), they will fly to loft #1 for their drink and roost. You must have a man at both locations to make sure that the birds trap in quickly.
In starting your training, you give the birds in loft #1 a very light feeding about noon the day before you start your training. This way the birds are very hungry the following day. You then bring the avairy, (loft #2) about one mile away also taking your team of birds (12 in our program) in a carrier and place them into the avairy for about 1/2 hour so that they can become accustomed to the avairy and area. Once the birds have settled down, you give them a light feeding and let them stay for about 15 minutes. Then you release them so that they can fly back to loft #1 for water and their rest. The same procedure is followed for at least five times. After the fifth time, instead of being brought out to the avairy (loft #2) are instead released from loft #1 itself. They should be able to fly to loft #2 and be trapped in to feed. Should some of the birds resist and return to loft #1 then hand carry them to the avairy and place them with the birds that trapped in properly. After a while they too will get the idea.
